The Story
Milwaukee’s ornate Pfister Hotel is said to unsettle even visiting professional ballplayers, who tell stories of radios switching on and rooms rearranging themselves.
The Hauntings
Major League Baseball has collected visiting players’ accounts of unusual overnight experiences at the Pfister. Bryce Harper reportedly changed rooms after waking to find his belongings moved. Brandon Phillips described a radio repeatedly coming on, while other players have spoken of strange noises, sensations and reluctant nights in the old property. Local tradition also imagines the hotel’s founding family still keeping watch. The interest here lies in identifiable modern testimony, not an invented crime or a single ghost with a guaranteed appearance.
The History
Opened in 1893 by the Pfister family, the Romanesque Revival hotel still houses an extensive collection of Victorian art.
