The Story
Tennessee’s state-library folklore exhibit retells an overnight experience of two women caring for the Hermitage. They heard dishes crashing in the pantry, chains clanking outside and what sounded like a horse crossing the hall. The noises stopped when a lamp was lit, then reportedly returned the following night.
