Thomas Lloyd Halsey House
Providence, Rhode Island, United States

The Story
The house had a haunted reputation even in H. P. Lovecraft's lifetime. After his aunt sent him a story about it in 1925, he jokingly wondered whether the turtles once kept in its cellar supplied the ghosts. He later used the real mansion as a model for Charles Dexter Ward's home. Qualifies through an attributed real-house reputation, not merely because it inspired fictional horror. No modern specific apparition invented.
