The Story
A spectral black dog is said to prowl the fort, glaring at visitors and passing through solid walls. Barking and howling are also reported. The legend connects the animal with British troops in the Revolutionary era and the ominous black dogs of British folklore; that connection predates the surviving modern fortifications.
