The Story
A faceless figure in a prison casemate and a helpful guide who cannot be found again give Fort Mifflin its uneasy welcome. The Philadelphia fort offers historical visits and separately ticketed paranormal programs.
The Hauntings
Investigator Dave Juliano places one of the fort’s strangest figures in Casemate 5: a man apparently sewing, with darkness where a face should be. Other stories follow screams from the Officers’ Quarters and a blacksmith called Jacob, whose old dispute over an open door seems to continue through doors that move unexpectedly. A more courteous ghost appears near the powder magazine. In Juliano’s collected account, visitors thank staff for an informative Revolutionary-era guide, only to be told that no such interpreter was on duty. The unsettling detail is not an attack but an ordinary conversation that becomes impossible afterward.
The History
Fort Mifflin’s history includes the Revolutionary War and later use as a Civil War prison. Its casemates and military rooms give the different stories their particular settings.

Plan Your Visit
Use the fort’s official visitor page for seasonal admission and its paranormal-program page for candlelight tours or overnight investigation events. These are separate activities: daytime admission does not include after-hours entry. The operator recommends 6400 Hog Island Road as the navigation address. Reserve the specific event rather than assuming every building is always open.
