Farnsworth House Inn

The Story

Bullet-marked brick and a small attic room frame the haunting stories of Gettysburg’s Farnsworth House Inn.

The Hauntings

The inn’s legends focus on a Confederate sharpshooter in the attic, its old cellar and reports of voices or apparitions within the house. The property’s interpreters connect the upper rooms with a story about the death of Jennie Wade elsewhere in town, though the exact source of the fatal shot remains a local interpretation rather than a conclusively identified gun position. The Farnsworth is not only a backdrop for reenactment; its own operator hosts guided paranormal investigations in preserved rooms.

The History

The historic building survived the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg and still carries visible marks of wartime gunfire.
