The Story
The White Eagle, a Portland saloon with rooms overhead, is known for ghost tales mixed into more than a century of music and nightlife.
The Hauntings
Its own operators describe the White Eagle as a place where spirits, ghost stories and extraordinary claims about underground passages have circulated for years. Rather than choose an unsupported murder or name as the explanation for every noise, the core haunting is the bar’s lingering reputation: apparent presences in a building filled with music, late-night activity and old stories. Visitors still hear the lore while the White Eagle continues doing what it has long done, offering a place to drink, listen and stay.
The History
The saloon opened in 1905 in North Portland and later became part of McMenamins’ collection of historic properties.
A sense of place.

Plan Your Visit
The White Eagle operates as a public saloon and an 11-room hotel. Its public areas can be visited during operating hours, and lodging is available by reservation. Guest rooms, service areas and claimed underground passages are not public exploration spaces.
