The Story
The Fox sisters' Hydesville cottage became famous in 1848 for raps allegedly answering the family's questions. In the story, the sounds identified a murdered peddler called Charles B. Rosna. The original house is gone, but the Trail says visitors still listen for knocks at its surviving foundation, now a memorial to the origins of Modern Spiritualism.
The Hauntings
The Fox sisters' Hydesville cottage became famous in 1848 for raps allegedly answering the family's questions. In the story, the sounds identified a murdered peddler called Charles B. Rosna. The original house is gone, but the Trail says visitors still listen for knocks at its surviving foundation, now a memorial to the origins of Modern Spiritualism. Rapping and peddler identification are historical Spiritualist claims, not established communication with the dead. Broader history includes controversy and confessions; no claim of authentic mediumship is made.
A sense of place.
