The Story
A pearl beneath a pillow is the Lady in Red’s signature in Mizpah Hotel lore. Elevator whispers and unseen children accompany the best-known spirit of this restored Tonopah hotel.
The Hauntings
Travel Nevada places the Lady in Red on the fifth floor, with whispers in the elevator and pearls discovered among guests’ belongings. The same collection describes laughter and running on the third floor, followed by an empty corridor when guests look outside. A more individual account comes from a contributor signing as B. Lyons on Haunted Places. Writing on October 4, 2018, they described a closet door opening in Room 510, followed by a dresser drawer that slid out again after being pushed shut. The drawer, they wrote, would not stay shut.
The History
The Mizpah opened in Tonopah’s mining era in 1907. Its current rooms include a Lady in Red Suite, preserving the ghost story as part of the hotel’s identity.
