The Story
At Seul Choix Point, a keeper seems reluctant to finish his shift. Footsteps on the tower stairs, displaced silverware and the scent of cigars form the lighthouse’s domestic ghost lore.
The Hauntings
The regional guide Exploring the North collects accounts from lighthouse workers and visitors: household objects found moved, a strong cigar smell and steps continuing up the tower. The stories are often understood as a keeper still tending his station. The sensation is of a household still occupied, with work continuing between the kitchen and the light above.
The History
The lighthouse complex overlooks a small Lake Michigan harbor. Its restored living quarters and outbuildings are interpreted by the Gulliver Historical Society in cooperation with Michigan’s parks authorities.
A sense of place.
