The Story

A kettle swinging away from the fireplace and an impression returning to a freshly straightened bed distinguish Octagon Hall’s ghost stories. The eight-sided Kentucky house also hosts reserved investigations.

The Hauntings

The Ghost Research Society’s account includes curator Billy Byrd’s reports of footsteps and moving doors when he was alone. It also recounts a fireplace kettle swinging outward during a 2003 tour and an upstairs feather bed repeatedly appearing occupied after being straightened. The bed story moves from overnight reenactors to a person later cleaning the room, who reportedly saw the depression return. The Society records these as collected accounts alongside its own 2011 investigation, rather than as events all witnessed by one team.

The History

Octagon Hall was built as the Caldwell family’s eight-sided home and later became rental property. A preservation foundation acquired it in 2001 and developed the house museum.
