The Story

A former Jones County care institution has become a bookable paranormal investigation site, with stories of a playful child and a vanishing woman in white.

The Hauntings

Iowa PBS records reports of a little girl who likes to play games and a white-clad woman who suddenly disappears in the building. Other paranormal groups have described giggling, footsteps, moving toys and apparitions near the former patient rooms. The stories are now part of the way investigators encounter the long, institutional corridors, where personal effects and furnishings from the building’s working years remain in place. Visitors and researchers describe these experiences without establishing the figures’ identities.

The History

The site first held a county poor farm, later replaced by a care institution commonly called Edinburgh Manor. The institution ceased operation in 2010.

Plan Your Visit

The owner expressly offers reserved daytime tours and booked overnight investigations, but the grounds and building are private, not drop-in public attractions. The building lacks heating and indoor running water; age limits and booking procedures are listed by the operator.
