The Story
Mysteries of Hawaiʻi records a fisherman’s account of a group hearing rhythmic drums after dark at Polihale. The sound grew louder, the air seemed suddenly hot and still, and the group understood the experience as huakaʻi pō. The account sits within a deeper tradition of Polihale as a leina a ka ʻuhane, a place of departure for souls. Living Hawaiian spiritual tradition and attributed encounter; no ritual directions, off-trail heiau route or promise of access. Current road/park conditions require checking.
