Giggle Hill / Fourth Marine Division Memorial Park

Haʻikū, Maui, Hawaii, United States

The Story

Giggle Hill’s legend recalls wartime soldiers bringing girlfriends up the hill, with laughter supposedly remaining after the couples were gone. A Maui informant recorded in USC’s folklore archive knew the story but heard screams instead while visiting with friends. The informant explained those particular noises as owls, a useful distinction between the legend and an actual outing.
