Cooch’s Bridge battlefield crossing

Newark, Delaware, United States

The Story

On moonless, foggy nights, a figure in a red coat reportedly walks near Cooch’s Bridge without a head. The Delaware Public Archives retells the story as that of a British soldier decapitated during the Revolutionary battle. In this version, he wanders the battlefield area still looking for what he lost in the fighting. British redcoat variant distinct from Welsh Tract Church’s Charlie Miller legend; do not merge their identities. Battle-site access should be checked separately from road access.
