The Story
The Delaware Public Archives preserves a story of a former woman resident lingering at Cannonball House. In the account, her dress caught fire when she stood too close to the hearth, and she died from the burns. Her unidentified spirit is said to remain in the house, whose better-known physical relic is a cannonball embedded during the War of 1812. Fire death treated as legend; do not invent a confirmed victim identity.
