Captain Grant’s 1754 Inn

The Story
A historic Connecticut inn offers ordinary overnight stays and stories of Adelaide, a woman said to appear beside guests’ beds.
The Hauntings
The house’s best-known tradition belongs to Adelaide, a woman connected in guesthouse lore with a husband who never returned from sea. Visitors to the room bearing her name have described an apparition in old-fashioned clothing, sometimes accompanied by children, and disturbances involving the television or shower curtain. The inn’s proprietor has also published a book about experiences associated with the property. The individual ghost’s historical identity varies in retellings, but the Adelaide Room remains the legend’s center.
The History
The house dates to the colonial period and now operates as a small rural bed-and-breakfast near the Mystic area.
A sense of place.
