The Story
The grand Hotel Colorado has kept an unlikely guest list for more than a century: an old woman at a basement window, a woman in a floral dress and the scent of phantom cigars.
The Hauntings
The hotel’s own collection of ghost stories remembers a houseman called Dave who, in 1993, saw an elderly woman peering through a deep basement window well. He switched on the light and found she had vanished. Upstairs, a woman in a floral dress has reportedly entered a tower suite to close windows around an ill guest. And in the lobby, cigar smoke is sometimes attributed to a spirit known as Walter, although the hotel itself notes that the name might belong to one of several former custodians. Another story concerns Bobbie, a supposed wartime nurse whose presence is associated with gardenia perfume. Her dramatic death is part of the legend, not a confirmed historical finding.
The History
Opened in 1893, the resort later served as a U.S. Navy hospital during World War II before returning to hospitality.
A sense of place.

Plan Your Visit
Hotel Colorado remains a working hotel with rooms and public hospitality areas. Book through its official lodging site; do not assume hotel accommodation grants access to staff rooms, closed basements or a private ghost investigation.
