The Story
Kenai Cemetery’s best-known figure is Arthur Johnson, said to appear tending his own grave and those of others. Another reported presence is an older woman called Marie. Haunted Places preserves both stories. Their historical identities remain unverified here, while the ghostly caretaker motif distinguishes the cemetery’s local tradition. The gentle caretaker motif is the distinctive part of the tradition. Listings titled Kenai Cemetery and Kenai’s local cemetery are treated as the same location here, so the same grounds and ghostly gardener are not counted twice.
